Sassenach KAL – Community Makes!

Oh. My. Goodness. What a journey this Scheepjes Knit-a-Long has been! I have loved every single second of it, right from the announcement back in January. As a designer, it’s really one of the most wonderful things to see your design being made by someone else, let alone by SO MANY knitters all over the world! It’s truly mindboggling, exhilarating and delightful to see makers all around the globe knit my Sassenach cushions, thank you to each and every one of you who even knit a single stitch of this knit-a-long.
In this post, I will be sharing some of the pictures from the Scheepjes Facebook Groups. If you haven’t joined yet, be sure to take a look as these groups are such a wonderful place to connect with other crafters, especially during a big make-a-long project. If you have a question, the amazing group moderators as well as other members are quick to help out. Have to rip back a large section? We will be cheering you on cause we know how it feels. Wow. Wat is de Scheepjes Knit-a-Long een fantastische beleving geweest! Ik heb van elke seconde genoten, vanaf de bekendmaking in januari. Als een ontwerper is er bijna niets leukers dan te zien dat iemand jouw ontwerp maakt, laat staan ZO VEEL mensen over de hele wereld! Het is echt verbijsterend, spannend en fantastisch tegelijk om zoveel breiers wereldwijd aan mijn Sassenach kussens te zien werken. Ik wil iedereen bedanken die ook maar één steekje heeft gebreid van deze knit-a-long.
In deze blogpost wil ik een aantal foto’s delen van de Scheepjes Facebook Groepen. Als je daar nog niet in zit, neem dan zeker een kijkje want het is zo’n leuke groep om dingen te delen met andere makers, en dan zeker tijdens zo’n groot project. Als je een vraag hebt, kun je rekenen op hulp van de geweldige beheerders en ook van de andere leden die je vraag beantwoorden. Moet je een groot stuk uithalen? Wij zullen je aanmoedigen, want we weten hoe het voelt. Als je niet op Facebook zit (begrijp ik volledig), kun je alsnog foto’s zien die op Instagram worden gedeeld met de hashtags #SassenachKAL en #ScheepjesKAL2022. Three official colourways

For the Scheepjes KAL 2022, we had three official colourways. Cirsium, mostly red and blue (seen as the 2nd and 5th cushion in the photo above), named after the Scottish national flower Thistle. Rosa, with soft greens and blues (the 3rd and 6th cushion above), named after the English national flower Rose. And Erica, with beautiful pinks and greens (1st and 4th cushion above), as a nod to the heather fields both in Scotland and where I live in the Netherlands.
In this blogpost, I’ll be showing you community makes from these official Scheepjes colourways first. There are also many more makes by ‘Team Free Spirit’, who very adventurously put together their own colour palettes. I’ll be sharing some of their makes in a later blogpost.

Voor de Scheepjes KAL 2022 zijn er drie verschillende officiële kleurstellingen. Cirsium, in rood en blauw (het 2e en 5e kussen hierboven op de foto), vernoemd naar de Schotse nationale bloem de distel. Rosa, met zachte groen- en blauwtinten (het 3e en 6e kussen hierboven), vernoemd naar de Engelse nationale bloem de roos. En Erica, met mooie roze en groene tinten (het 1e en 4e kussen hierboven), als een knipoog naar de heidevelden zowel in Schotland als hier waar ik woon in Nederland.
In deze blogpost laat ik je enkele kussens zien die jullie hebben gemaakt van deze officiële kleurstellingen. Er zijn ook nog ontzettend veel Team Free Spirit leden, die heel avontuurlijk hun eigen kleurenpalet hebben samengesteld. Die zal ik in een andere blogpost delen.

Cirsium – Thistle | Distel

Cirsium is my personal favourite colourway of the three official ones, and I’m so happy to see many of you love it too! It’s a very bold colourway with the reds and that dash of yellow, and it will look good in so many interiors. If you have any petrol blue, mustard yellow, or rusty oranges in your living room, this is the colourway for you! The Scheepjes Metropolis colours in this colourway are: A 067 Buenos Aires, B 004 Kabul, C 035 Seoul, D 007 Philadelphia, E 064 Krakow, and F 069 Miami. Cirsium is mijn eigen favoriete kleurstelling van de drie originele, en ik ben zo blij om te zien dat velen van jullie het ook mooi vinden! Het is een heel sprekende kleurstelling met dat felle rood en dat geel ertussen, en het zal goed passen bij veel interieurs. Als je petrolblauw, mosterdgeel of roestoranje in je woonkamer hebt, is dit de kleurstelling voor jou. Rosa – Rose | Roos

I think Rosa was the most popular colourway out of the three! And it’s easy to see why, with the beautiful pastel blues and greens which go perfectly with the rusty red and dark green. This colourway will go well with very light interiors, such as light grey and blue. The Scheepjes Metropolis colours used are: A 073 Izmir, B 019 Marseille, C 023 Monterrey, D 026 Depok, E 042 Lagos, and F 008 Beirut. Check this page for yarn quantities.

Volgens mij was Rosa de meest populaire kleurstelling van de drie! En het is gemakkelijk te zien waarom, die mooie pastelblauw- en groentinten met het roestrood en donkergroen als tegenhangers. Deze kleurstelling past goed bij lichte interieuren, zoals lichtgrijs en lichtblauw. Erica – Heather | Heide

The Erica colourway is such a happy palette with its bright pinks and greens, I love it! This colourway looks amazing with cream coloured interiors, especially if you have lots of plants or other green accents in your living room. The Scheepjes Metropolis colours in this colourway are: A 056 Almaty, B 006 Taipei, C 051 Marrakech, D 057 Milan, E 017 Multan, and F 016 Karachi. Check this page for yarn quantities.

De Erica kleurstelling heeft zo’n vrolijk kleurenpalet met dat heldere roze erin, vind je niet? Deze kleurstelling werkt heel goed in crèmekleurige interieuren, vooral als je veel planten of andere groene accenten in de kamer hebt. What to knit now? | Wat ga je nu breien?

After completing a big knitting or crochet project, we often feel like ‘phew, what now?’. It’s great to finish a large project, but we are also keen to start a new one. If you enjoy colourwork knitting, I have some fun options for you!

Na het afmaken van een groot brei- of haakproject denken we vaak ‘poeh, en wat nu?’. Het voelt heel goed om een groot project te voltooien, maar onze handen jeuken vaak alweer om een nieuw project te starten. Als je kleurwerk breien leuk vond, dan heb ik wat ideeën voor je!

Around the World Sweater – step by step tutorial

Have you ever wanted to knit your own sweater? The Around the World Sweater is a super fun one to try. It comes in 16 sizes ranging from 32 to 62 inch bust, it’s top town, no seaming, and easily customizable! Now you have some colourwork experience under your belt, the patterns in this sweater are going to be super easy as they are all 4-stitch repeats. No more complicated patterns or counting, but easy breezy knitting with this one.

Heb je altijd al je eigen trui willen breien? De Around the World Sweater is een hele leuke om te proberen. Ik heb hem geschreven voor 16 maten, van een borstomtrek van 80 tot 155cm. Je breit hem van boven naar beneden en hoeft dus geen delen in elkaar te naaien. Nu je wat ervaring hebt met kleurwerk breien is deze trui een makkie, want alle patronen hebben een veelvoud van 4 stn. Geen ingewikkelde patronen onthouden maar lekker breien.
