Scheepjes KAL 2022 Week Eight | Week Acht

In Week 8 of the Scheepjes KAL 2022, it is finally time for the much anticipated clovers! My absolute favourite section of the Claire cushion, and I hope you will like it as much as I do. The clovers look very intimidating, but it really isn’t as difficult as it looks. Just use your stitch markers again at every pattern repeat, and things will go much more smoothly. I will have more tips for you further down in this blogpost, so keep reading!
This week consists of five charts, with the middle one being the clovers. As many of you know the Outlander story, where I drew inspiration from for the cushions, I’ll give a little backstory on the inspiration for these charts. Do you see the ‘waves’ framing the clovers? These waves symbolize the many sea travels of Claire and Jamie. First from Scotland to France, and a much longer sea voyage later on in the story. Without giving away too much, I can tell you I was relieved to see their feet back on land again!
The clover section is inspired by Claire’s love for herbs and plants, and her extensive knowledge of them. She often saves people who have mysterious illnesses, finding out for instance they ate lily of the valley instead of wood garlic. People are often astounded by Claire’s knowledge and ability to save people with medicine, which after time earns her the nickname ‘Dame Blanche’ or sometimes ‘White Witch’. As I’m also very interested in plants (especially the ones you can dye yarns with), I made sure to use lots of floral charts for Claire.

Het is Week 8 van de Scheepjes KAL 2022, wat betekent dat het eindelijk tijd is voor de lang verwachte klavers! Dit is absoluut mijn favoriete ontwerp in het Claire kussen, en ik hoop dat jullie er net zoveel plezier van hebben als ik. De klavers zien er best intimiderend uit, maar ze zijn echt niet zo moeilijk als het lijkt. Neem gewoon weer je stekenmarkeerders erbij en dan komt alles goed. Verder in deze blogpost heb ik nog meer tips, dus lees snel verder.
Deze week bestaat uit vijf schema’s, waarvan het middelste schema de klavers is. Omdat velen van jullie het Outlander verhaal kennen, ofwel van de boeken ofwel van de TV-serie, zal ik ook vertellen waar deze schema’s op geïnspireerd zijn. Zie je de golfjes aan de onder- en bovenkant van de klavers? Die staan symbool voor de vele reizen op zee van Jamie en Claire. Eerst van Schotland naar Frankrijk, en later in het verhaal volgt een veel langere reis op zee. Zonder teveel te verklappen, kan ik wel alvast zeggen dat ik opgelucht was toen ze weer op vaste grond stonden! 
De klavers zijn geïnspireerd door Claire’s liefde voor kruiden en planten, en haar uitgebreide kennis ervan. Ze redt vaak mensen die mysterieuze ziekten lijken te hebben, maar waarvan ze er snel achterkomt dat ze lelietjes van dalen hebben gegeten in plaats van daslook. Mensen staan vaak versteld van Claire’s plantenkennis, en hoe ze anderen medicijnen toedient, wat haar na een tijd de bijnaam ‘Dame Blanche’ of ook wel ‘White Witch’ oplevert. Omdat ikzelf ook erg geïnteresseerd ben in planten (vooral die je kunt gebruiken om garens mee te verven), ontwierp ik veel bloemige schema’s voor Claire’s kussen.

If you’re choosing your own colours, please note that since the clover chart is the biggest chart, this will be the biggest influence on the overall colour of the Claire cushion. Pick the colours you like best!

Omdat het klaver schema het grootste schema is voor het Claire kussen, heeft dit de meeste invloed op de algemene kleurimpressie van het kussen. Kies de kleuren die je het mooist vindt!

Easy repeats | Gemakkelijke herhalingen

For the waves charts – Charts 25 and 27 – there are some easy repeats in the colourwork to help you remember. If you look at Round 6 of Chart 25, the repeat is “one, three, one, three”. For Round 7, it’s “three, five, three, five”. Also, Charts 25 and 27 are completely the same, while Charts 24 and 28 are mirrored.

Voor de ‘golf’ schema’s – Schema’s 25 en 27 – zijn er enkele gemakkelijk te onthouden patroonherhalingen. Als je naar Toer 6 kijkt van Schema 25, zie je dat de herhaling “een, drie, een, drie” is. Voor Toer 7 is het “drie, vijf, drie, vijf”. Schema’s 25 en 27 zijn overigens compleet identiek, hoewel Schema’s 24 en 28 gespiegeld zijn ten opzichte van elkaar.

Clover Chart | Klaver Schema

For the Clover chart, it’s very difficult to find easy repeats as the chart is so asymmetrical. It does help to remember the stitch count for the clover leaves. The leaves are a maximum of 4 stitches wide, only 3 stitches wide closest to the ‘join’ at the vines, and only 2 stitches wide at the very end of the leaf. Also, in Rounds 16 and 20, whenever you are using Yarn D, it’s always 4 stitches after each other, see? Incidentally, Rounds 16 and 20 are completely identical to each other! Rounds 24 and 25 are also completely the same, so in Round 25 you simply have to knit each stitch in the colour it already is.

Voor het Klaver schema is het moeilijk om gemakkelijke herhalingen te vinden, omdat het patroon zo asymmetrisch is. Het helpt wel om de vorm van de bladeren te onthouden. Zie je dat de bladeren maximaal 4 steken breed zijn, bij de aanzet 3 steken, en op het eind 2 steken. In Toeren 16 en 20 brei je van Kleur D telkens 4 steken, zie je? Toeren 16 en 20 zijn overigens compleet identiek! Toeren 24 en 25 zijn ook helemaal hetzelfde, waardoor je in Toer 25 alle steken kunt breien in de kleur die ze al hebben. 

Wrapping floats | Garens inpakken

Continuing to look at the Clover chart, I want you to notice several places where there are 6 stitches of Yarn A in a row: Round 13, Round 18, and Round 22. Wrap your floats here so that your work stays nice and even. For a reminder on how to wrap floats, watch this video.

Bij het Klaver schema wil ik je ook wijzen op verschillende plekken waar er 6 opeenvolgende steken van Kleur A zijn: Toer 13, Toer 18, en Toer 22. Pak je garens hier in zodat je stekenverhouding mooi gelijk blijft. Voor een opfrisser van het inpakken van garens kijk je deze video.
