What to do with yarn scraps?
If you have been following along with the Scheepjes Summer Sock-a-Long, you might have some leftover yarn after finishing your Classic New Leaf Socks. Selfstriping yarn like Scheepjes Downtown is not the easiest yarn to use, as you often want to make optimal use of the striping effect. I often like to crochet decorative garlands with my yarn scraps, and see how fun it is with a selfstriping yarn!
In this blogpost I have the pattern for you, and a quick video to help you along.
Als je mee hebt gedaan met de Scheepjes Summer Sock-a-Long dan heb je wellicht wat garen over na het afmaken van je Classic New Leaf Socks. Restjes zelfstrepende garens zoals Scheepjes Downtown zijn niet het gemakkelijkst om zomaar in een project te gebruiken, omdat je vaak de strepen optimaal wilt benutten. Maar kijk nou hoe leuk deze slinger wordt! Ik haak vaak slingers van restjes garen, en ik wilde je dit niet onthouden.

In de video hierboven laat ik je kort zien hoe ik de slinger maak, en in principe zou je al genoeg kunnen hebben aan deze video. Hieronder heb ik het patroon voor je en ook nog een haakschema.

Leftover Scheepjes Downtown yarn and a 2.5mm crochet hook
Restje Scheepjes Downtown garen en een 2,5 mm haaknaald
Pattern | Patroon
Start by crocheting 3 chain sts, then make 15 double crochets into the very first chain st. To close, slip stitch to the 3rd chain st from the beginning. This is your first circle. *Crochet 13 chain sts, then make 7 double crochets into the 4th chain st from the hook. Skip 2 chain sts, and slip stitch into the 3rd one. Continue on the other side of the chain sts, by crocheting another set of 7 double crochets into the same chain st, that now just looks like a big hole. Slip stitch to the chain st at the top, or to the first dc, whichever one is easiest to get into. Then repeat from * until your garland is long enough.
Begin met 3 lossen, en haak 15 stokjes in de allereerste losse. Haak een halve vaste in de 3e losse van het begin om de cirkel te sluiten. *Haak 13 lossen, haak dan 7 stokjes in de 4e losse vanaf de naald. Sla 2 lossen over en haak een halve vaste in de 3e losse. Ga verder aan de andere kant van de lossenketting, haak nog 7 stokjes in dezelfde losse, die er nu uitziet als een groot gat. Haak een halve vaste in de bovenste losse, of in het eerste stokje, welke gemakkelijker is. Herhaal dan vanaf * tot de slinger lang genoeg is.
Crochet Chart | Haakschema
In this crochet chart, you’ll see the beginning in black, and the repeat in colours. After the setup part, you start with the chain sts (red), then the first half of the circle (blue) and then the second half of the circle (green). Having different colours helps me visualize it, so I thought it might be helpful to you as well!
In dit haakschema zie je het begin in zwart, en de herhaling in gekleurde steken. Na het begin start je met de lossenketting (rood), dan de eerste helft van het rondje (blauw), dan de tweede helft van het rondje (groen). De verschillende kleuren helpen mij met de haakvolgorde, dus ik dacht misschien helpt het anderen ook!
You can get about 3 to 4 circles per colour change with Scheepjes Downtown, so even a small amount of scraps will get you a cute little garland! Have fun with this free pattern 🙂
Je krijgt ongeveer 3 tot 4 rondjes per kleur van Scheepjes Downtown, dus zelfs met een klein bolletje restgaren krijg je al een leuke slinger. Veel plezier met dit gratis patroon! 🙂
