Craftsy is een website waar allerlei patronen te vinden zijn, en je kunt er ook materialen kopen zoals prachtige soorten wol.. Maar veruit het leukste wat ze hebben zijn de online workshops. Het is hetzelfde idee als een gewone workshop, namelijk dat iemand je iets leert door het zelf voor te doen. De les die ik voor jullie heb uitgekozen is ‘Mastering Lace Shawls’ van Laura Nelkin. Deze online workshop heb ikzelf ook gevolgd, en toen heb ik een prachtige kanten shawl gebreid!

But the best part (in my opinion) is that they have online video lessons. They are just like workshops actually, as in that someone shows you how to do something, whether that is knitting, cake decorating, sewing.. you name it! Nu hebben jullie de kans om ook zo’n beauty te maken. Met de workshop ‘Mastering Lace Shawls’ krijg je de patronen voor twee kanten shawls, beide ontworpen door Laura Nelkin. In de video’s neemt Laura je door het hele proces van het breien van een van die twee shawls. Eerst krijg je uitvoerig uitgelegd wat je allemaal zult leren, hoe een sjaal in elkaar steekt en wat je moet doen voordat je begint. Dit allemaal zodat je geen fouten zult maken, zoals het kiezen van de verkeerde wol. Dan legt ze het patroon rij voor rij aan je uit, en breit het zelfs met je mee! Het patroon komt in geschreven vorm en ook in schema’s. Beide manieren worden duidelijk uitgelegd, dus geen paniek! Dat Laura met je mee breit vond ikzelf supermotiverend, ik had nog nooit zo snel vooruitgang gemaakt op een breiwerk!

She’ll guide you through the entire making process of the first shawl. It begins with explaining knitting terms, showing the importance of gauge and the right choice of yarn. I was dying to start knitting, but it’s actually really important to know about this kind of stuff before you start. After that, she takes you through the rows of the pattern one by one. The patterns come in written form and in charts, and she’ll explain both ways to you. The thing I found most motivating is that Laura knits along with you! I’ve never completed a knitting project so fast.. it was amazing! Deze les is geschikt voor beginners en gevorderden. Laura legt alles vanaf het begin uit, en als je bijvoorbeeld al weet hoe je moet minderen kun je dat deel gewoon skippen. Maar zelfs als je de basis al weet heeft Laura nog steeds geweldige tips voor je! Het patroon voor de shawl wordt geleidelijk aan moeilijker, zodat je aan het eind van deze les zelfs lastige patronen kunt volgen! Ook kun je vragen stellen aan haar als je ergens in de problemen komt. Kortom, een geweldige kans om te leren van een topdesigner.
This class is suitable for both beginners and experienced knitters. Laura will explain everything, but if you already know the basics you can just skip to the next part. But even an experienced knitter will learn something from this amazing designer, she gives great advice. Also, if you run into trouble you can ask her a question in the chat section, or look up what others have already asked. The pattern gets more difficult as you make progress, you’ll learn new things constantly. At the end, you’ll be prepared to even take on the hardest lace patterns!
