First peek at a new design

Hi everyone! I am very excited to be sharing a first peek at my newest design. It has been in the works for a couple months now, so you can imagine how badly I want to share it! In the picture above, you already get to see the colours for the final piece. But first, I’ll show you my swatches.

Hoi iedereen! Ik heb weer wat leuks te delen, en ben heel benieuwd hoe jullie het vinden. Dit ontwerp is al een paar maanden in de maak, dus je kunt je al voorstellen hoe ik stond te trappelen om jullie erover te vertellen. In de foto hierboven zie je al de kleuren die ik uiteindelijk heb gebruikt, maar eerst laat ik de proeflapjes zien.

I made two swatches for this project. I already knew I wanted to use Scheepjes Colour Crafter for this project, but I didn’t have the yarns at home in the colours I wanted to use. So I made one swatch in colours that I did have (bottom left), and one swatch in the colours I wanted, but a different yarn (top right). Smart right? This way, I could check the stitch gauge in the first swatch, and the second swatch showed me that I liked the colours together.

Voor dit ontwerp maakte ik twee proeflapjes. Ik wist al dat ik het in Scheepjes Colour Crafter wilde maken, maar ik had de kleuren die ik wilde gebruiken nog niet in mijn garenvoorraad. Dus maakte ik een lapje met de kleuren die ik wél had van Colour Crafter (linksonder) en een lapje met een ander garen in de kleuren die ik wilde gebruiken (rechtsboven). Slim he? Op deze manier vertelde het ene proeflapje me de stekenverhouding, en het andere proeflapje of ik de kleuren wel mooi vond bij elkaar.

I don’t know if you spotted it from the swatches already, but this project has a very fun construction! Each row is made in a different colour, and if you look at the swatch, each colour goes ‘up’ a step after two waves. It kind of works like corner to corner in a way, except that you don’t turn at the end of the row.

Misschien zag je het al aan de eerste foto van de proeflapjes, dit ontwerp heeft een hele leuke constructie al zeg ik het zelf. Elke rij maak je in een andere kleur, en de kleur gaat na twee golfjes een ‘stapje’ omhoog. Het werkt een beetje als ‘corner to corner’ haken, alleen moet je daarbij je werk omdraaien en bij dit ontwerp hoeft dat niet.
I was very happy that I got to try out my new colouring pens, haha. My parents gifted me this huge box of pens and it seems like it has every colour! I hope my little sketch gives you a better idea of how the pattern is going to look. I should probably also mention that it’s a blanket! My sample maker has been working very hard on it for the last months, and I’m so thrilled with how it came out. I’ll show you more soon!

Ook een mooi moment om mijn nieuwe kleurstiften uit te proberen! Mijn ouders gaven me een grote doos nieuwe kleurtjes en ik stond te popelen om ze te gebruiken. Hopelijk geeft mijn kleine schets je ook een beter idee van hoe het eruit gaat zien. Het wordt trouwens een deken! Mijn sample haakster heeft er hard aan gewerkt de afgelopen maanden, en ik ben zo blij met hoe de uiteindelijke deken is geworden. Snel meer hierover!
