Scheepjes Catona Colour pack, assortment of all 109 colours of Scheepjes Catona (100% mercerised cotton), 25m/10g. 108 colours used in the blanket.

If you choose to crochet this blanket with more/less stitches, you will need more/less yarn.

Finished Size

The finished size of the Rainbow Sea Waves blanket is 100 x 140cm (39″x 55″) not including fringe. The size can easily be altered, but this is the size that will work best for the Colour Pack.

Special Stitch | Speciale Steek

Special stitch: Standing DC2TOG
Yrh 2 times, insert hook in designated stitch and complete dc2tog as usual: yrh, pull up loop, yrh and through 2 loops, insert into next st, yrh, pull up loop, yrh and through 2 loops, yrh and through all loops. The extra yarnover made at the beginning will ensure that the standing dc2tog looks the same as a regular dc2tog.

Speciale steek: staand 2st smh

Pattern Notes | Patroon Opmerkingen

The Rainbow Sea Waves Blanket is worked in rows. Each row starts from the same side of the blanket, you do not turn your work to crochet on the wrong side. From the second row, you crochet into the back loops only, thereby creating visual lines on the front of your work formed by the unused front loops.
The waves are formed by making increases and decreases. The increases form the ‘hills’, and the decreases form the ‘valleys’.
NO sewing in ends required! The ends are incorporated into the fringe on the sides of the blanket. How-to video included.

Colour Order | Kleurvolgorde

Please find the colour order for Scheepjes Catona below. I am using 108 colours from the colour pack, so that is all except colour 110 Jet Black. Firstly because I find this colour too contrasting to incorporate into the gradient, and secondly because I love using this for face embroidery on my amigurumis so every scrap is saved for that purpose.
Please note the colours are arranged in 4 columns, with the order number on the left, and colourway number on the right.

If you find yourself looking for a particular colour number and can’t find it, perhaps the pictures below will help. My mom kept a notebook while she made this blanket sample, and placed a scrap of the yarn in it together with the colourway number. It will give you an idea of which shade you’re looking for!

Photos of my moms notebook, she has noted down the colourway number on the left, and the order of use on the right. Thought this would be helpful if you’re looking for the correct colourway!

The Pattern | Het Patroon

TIP: use a bigger crochet hook for the starting chain only.
With your first colour, chain 218 sts. (Or other multiple of 12 + 2)
Row 1 (RS): Over 3rd and 4th ch from hook: dc2tog, then: dc2tog, *(2dc in next st) 4x, (dc2tog) 4x; rep from * until last 4 chains: (dc2tog) 2x. Cut current yarn leaving 15cm tail, do not turn work. Optional: make the fringe as you go, please see ‘Finishing’ below. [216 sts]
NOTE 1:
the 2 skipped ch at the beginning of this row do not count as a stitch.
NOTE 2: you should have enough yarn to complete the starting chain and Row 1. If not, see if you are crocheting to the correct gauge, and if needed use a smaller hook for Row 1.
Row 2 (RS): Take new colour, start with standing dc2tog blo, dc2tog blo, *(2dc blo in next st) 4x, (dc2tog blo) 4x; rep from * until last 4 sts, (dc2tog blo) 2x. Cut current yarn leaving 15cm tail, do not turn work. [216 sts] Repeat Row 2 until you’ve used all colours in the colour list above, or until you’re satisfied with the length of your blanket. Remember, ALL rows start from the same side.
TIP!! Place a stitch marker in between the 2nd and 3rd increase, so on the top of a ‘wave’, to make it easier to count. Keep the flow of 4 increases – 4 decreases, and you’ll be fine.

Finishing | Afwerking

You will have a little bit left of each colour for the fringe. Perhaps you will not have enough yarn left of the very first colour, feel free to use a similar colour for the fringe on that row. To make the fringe, cut of 2 pieces of 30cm long yarn, fold it in half and pull it halfway through the edge of the blanket with a crochet hook (you may want to use a bigger hook). Then pull the strands through the loop you just created. Please view the tutorial in this video. This video is made for the Chevrainbow Blanket fringe, but the Rainbow Sea Waves blanket uses exactly the same technique.
