The past few weeks I’ve been working on a secret project, which is always very exciting! Now, I can finally share this project with you! Simy from Simy’s Studio asked me to make a mandala, whether crocheted, knitted, woven, felted… She gave me this artwork as inspiration:

De afgelopen paar weken heb ik gewerkt aan een geheim project, wat natuurlijk altijd heel spannend is! Nu kan ik eindelijk delen wat dit project is geweest. Simy van Simy’s Studio heeft mij gevraagd een mandala te maken; haken, breien, weven, vilten, maakt niet uit! De onderstaande tekening kreeg ik als inspiratie:

Is het niet mooi? Ik vind de kleuren echt prachtig.. zachte groen- en roze tinten zijn helemaal mijn stijl 🙂 Als je graag meer wilt weten over deze mandala, kun je Simy’s blogpost lezen.

Let’s get crafting!

Time for me to get out my yarn and needles! I had lots of fun fishing through my (quite substantial) yarn stash, to hopefully find the perfect matches for the colours used in the artwork. In the end I have used a few colours of Scheepjes Metropolis, which is their new sockyarn, and heavenly to crochet with as well! I also used Scheepjes Our Tribe, Alpaca Rhythm, Softfun, Cotton 8, Catona, Whirlette.. a whole bunch of leftover yarn I had!

Tijd dus voor mij om mijn garen en naalden uit de kast te halen! Ik vond het heel leuk door mijn garenkast te gaan en garens uit te zoeken die qua kleur het beste overeenkwamen met de tekening. Uiteindelijk koos ik een paar kleuren van Scheepjes Metropolis, het nieuwe sokkengaren dat ze hebben uitgebracht maar ook heel fijn haakt! En dan nog Scheepjes Our Tribe, Alpaca Rhythm, Softfun, Cotton 8, Catona, Whirlette.. heel wat garenrestjes die ik nog had!

The result

This is the result, do you like it? I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. Some rounds were quite challenging as the artwork is very intricate, so I had to figure out how I would replicate them best as I could with yarn.

Dit is het resultaat, wat vind je ervan? Ik ben best wel tevreden met hoe het eruitziet, omdat sommige gedeeltes best wel lastig waren. De tekening is heel gedetailleerd, dus moest ik soms echt afwegingen maken wat ik wel en niet zou namaken. 

As you might be able to see, the mandala is part-knit, part-crochet. I thought it would be fun to mix the two techniques! It actually went quite smoothly, I might even use it in a pattern sometime 🙂

Zoals je misschien ziet is de mandala deels gehaakt en deels gebreid! Ik dacht dat het wel leuk zou zijn om de twee technieken te combineren, en dat was het ook. Het ging veel soepeler dan ik had gedacht, dus wie weet gebruik ik het nog wel eens in een patroon 🙂
