A crochet project for furbabies
It’s Monday, which means it is time for an update on my newest design. I am quite excited about this one, because it will be my first design for pets! I am making a pet bed with Scheepjes Furry Tales and Scheepjes Stone Washed XL. You’ll crochet a circle with each of the yarns, and then sew them closed around an inner cushion.
Ever since I felt Scheepjes Furry Tales, I wanted to make a cushion with it as it is just so super soft and snuggly. And when I was making the pieces for my Yeti Plushy, I noticed that my cat Momo would walk on top of the pieces and start to massage it with her paws, so cute! She only does this when she finds a fabric particularly soft, so I thought: one day, I’ll make her a pet bed with this yarn.
Het is maandag, wat betekent dat ik een nieuwe update voor je heb over mijn nieuwste ontwerp. Het wordt mijn eerste ontwerp voor huisdieren, dus ben ik heel benieuwd wat jullie er allemaal van vinden. Het wordt een huisdierkussen! Ik heb Scheepjes Furry Tales en Scheepjes Stone Washed XL ervoor gebruikt. Je haakt met elk van de garens één cirkel, die je dan aan elkaar maakt en opvult met een rond binnenkussen.
Al vanaf het eerste moment dat ik voelde hoe zacht Scheepjes Furry Tales is, wilde ik er al een kussen mee maken. En toen ik vorig jaar mijn Yeti Plushy aan het haken was, merkte ik dat mijn kat Momo er op zou gaan staan en met haar pootjes de stof masseerde. Zo schattig! Dit doet ze alleen als ze iets echt heel zacht vindt, dus ik wist dat ik ooit iets voor haar moest maken met dit garen.
The top of the pet bed will be made using Furry Tales, so it’s nice and fluffy. The bottom is crocheted using Stone Washed XL, which is easier to clean. Of course, the entire pet bed is washable, but I wanted it to be able to spotclean the bottom of the pet bed. Stone Washed XL is also less ‘slippery’ than Furry Tales, which means it will stay in place better if you place it on a smooth surface such as floor tiles. And as a bonus, these two colours just really work together! It was very difficult to get the colours right on camera, so I’ve included pictures from the Scheepjes website to give you an idea of the actual colours of the yarns:
De bovenkant van het huisdierkussen wordt van Furry Tales, mooi zacht en fluffy. De onderkant haak je van Stone Washed XL, erg handig om snel even schoon te maken als het vies wordt van de vloer, of waar je het kussen dan ook op wilt leggen. Natuurlijk maak ik het kussen zo dat je het in zijn geheel kunt wassen, maar wel zo handig als je het ook even met een doekje kunt afvegen. Bovendien heeft Stone Washed XL meer grip, erg handig als je een tegelvloer hebt en je wilt niet dat het kussen over de hele vloer glibbert als je huisdier erop wilt gaan zitten. De kleuren werken ook prachtig samen. Het was wel erg lastig om de kleuren goed op de foto te zetten, dus heb ik er een plaatje bij gedaan van de garens zoals ze op de Scheepjes website staan:
The Yarn
For the pet bed, which is 60cm in diameter, you will need 3 balls of Scheepjes Furry Tales, and 5 balls of Scheepjes Stone Washed XL. I have used the following colours:

I simply had to include these pictures! I crocheted the Scheepjes Furry Tales side first, and laid it on a chair next to me while I worked on the Stone Washed XL part. And then, Momo jumped up on it and started massaging the fabric! Seems like she likes it, yay! It’s always a risk I think, making or buying something for cats. You can buy them the most luxurious pet bed and they will still prefer the cardboard box! Anyway, let’s hope she will also like the cushion when finished.
Deze foto’s kon ik je niet onthouden! Ik maakte de cirkel met Furry Tales eerst, en legde hem naast me op een stoel terwijl ik aan de andere cirkel met Stone Washed XL begon. Momo sprong op de stoel en begon de stof te masseren, lijkt erop dat ze het zacht genoeg vindt! Het is altijd een risico, vind ik, om iets nieuws te kopen of te maken voor katten. Je kunt ze het meest luxe speeltje of kattenbed kopen en alsnog vinden ze de doos leuker. Laten we hopen dat ze het kussen net zo leuk vindt als het af is.
