My design – the Next Step Blanket, is a wonderful project that occupies your mind just enough for you to fully relax, and not get stressed by any complicated stitches.
This blanket consists mostly of double crochet (US) stitches, and the diagonal construction will make it seem like they are climbing up a staircase, hence the name. This project is also a perfect ‘next step’ for beginner crocheters who already have a project or two under their belt.
For this blanket you will need 16 balls of Scheepjes Colour Crafter, I have picked a palette of 8 colours. This yarn amount will allow you to create the blanket in the original size: 190 x 190cm / 75×75 inches.
The size of the blanket can easily be altered to be narrower/wider and shorter/longer. Please note that modifying the size will also change the needed yarn amount.
The Next Step Blanket is worked in rows. Each row starts from the same side of the blanket, you do not turn your work to crochet on the wrong side. From the second row, you crochet into the back loops only, thereby creating visual lines on the front of your work formed by the unused front loops.
The waves are formed by making increases and decreases. The increases form the ‘hills’, and the decreases form the ‘valleys’.
Available in English (both US and UK) and Dutch, downloadable PDF.
