Why measuring is so important

Why measuring is so important

Although I’ve been living on my own for the past 5 years, I still travel home to my parents almost every weekend. My mom is also very creative so usually we’re knitting or crocheting together, it’s so much fun! Instead of bringing my work with me on the train every time, I have projects I work on here, and projects I have at my parents’ house. The last couple of weeks I’ve been working on the hot water bottle cozy from a Mollie Makes issue. I thought it was going to be easy, but when I discovered it has lining it suddenly became much harder. You have to pay attention to which parts to sew together, and which side is facing out when you’re doing that. My sewing machine skills are also not very good, so it took me quite a while. But yesterday I finally finished it! I was super excited when I got on the train with my cozy, dying to try it on my hot water bottle at home. But when I got there, I found out that the cozy is a teensy bit too small.. I can close it, but the bottle pushes against the fabric from the inside, so the head looks really weird, see for yourself:IMG_9057 IMG_9059

Some people will say, oh that’s not too bad! It closes, right? But I am such a perfectionist that I can’t let it look like this. It wasn’t very smart of me to make the cozy at home and not bringing my hot water bottle with me. The backside of the bear is simply too short now. But luckily, there are still a few options. My boyfriend suggested that I fill it with seeds instead, so it can be heated in the microwave. What a great idea! Although I would have to wipe the microwave thoroughly clean before putting this pristine white bear inside.. I can already see the spaghetti stains, haha. Or… I was thinking I could trim the water bottle a little bit. The ‘neck’ of the bottle is a bit long, I can cut off a centimeter without the lid being exposed. But I’m a bit afraid that this might effect the safety of the bottle somehow. Then there’s plan C: Use the bear as storage for my gloves and hats when it gets too warm to wear them, this way it could double as a pillow. Or I could just fill it and really make a pillow out of it.

What do you think? Any other great ideas? Let me know in the comments! Meanwhile I’ve stuffed him with a shawl, until I know what to do.

Dankjewel!

I love your bear! He would make a lovely bag for storing pajamas or nightgowns. When I was a child we would always know where to find our pjs. If you place a hot water bottle inside along with the nightgown, it is deliciously warm when you are ready to jump into bed.
