Tea for two – Crochet Teapot Pattern

Tea for two – Crochet Teapot Pattern

This pattern is written in English and Dutch. Please turn off your translator to avoid confusion.

Fall is the perfect time of year to drink tea. Well, actually I drink tea all year round, but when the leaves are falling and the temperature drops, there’s nothing like a hot cup of tea to protect you from the flu. Tea warms you up, cheers you up, and makes you sleep better! Real tea-lover or not, everyone will love these cute crocheted teapots and matching cups. Make keychains out of them, or make a whole set so your dolls can have a teaparty.

Yarn | Garen

For this project I used Scheepjes Cotton 8 yarns, perfect for small crochet projects like this! Use a 2.3mm or 2.5mm crochet hook for the best result.

Pattern | Patroon

(EN) For the teapot, you start by crocheting the small parts: the spout and the handgrips. The spout is crocheted in continuous rounds. Usually, you chain 1 at the beginning of a round, and make a slip stitch at the end, but you don’t do that for continuous rounds. If you want to know more about these terms and the difference, look here.

Spout:
1. 6sc in ring, pull tight.      Leave the end on the outside of the spout, so you can use this thread to sew it on the kettle later on.
2. 1sc, 1sc, 2sc, 1sc[x3]    (7)
3. 1sc[x7]                             (7)
4. 1sc[x3], sc2tog, 1sc, 1sc  (6)
5. 1sc, 1sc, sc2tog, 1sc, 1sc  (5)
6. 1sc[x5]
Close with a slip stitch. Cut the thread and use this to stuff the spout with.
Handgrip side:
ch12, turn work, 11 slst.
Handgrip top:
ch6, turn work, 5 slst.

Handvat zijkant:
12 lossen, keer om, 11 hv.
Handvat bovenkant:
6 lossen, keer om, 5 hv.

(EN) Now you’ve crocheted all the small parts, it’s time to crochet the kettle, which you will crochet in joined rounds. If you want a striped teapot like in the pictures, use a different colour for the rows 6, 8, 10 and 12

Kettle:
1. 6sc in magic ring
2. *2sc*                         (12)
3. *1sc, 2sc*                  (18)
4. *1sc, 1sc, 2sc*           (24)
5. *1sc, in the back loop only*  (24)
6. *1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 2sc*          (30)
7 – 10 *1sc*                        (30)
This is a good time to finish the bottom part of the kettle. We’ll crochet a round of single crochet to make sure the kettle can stand. Plus, it really makes it look like a teapot. This round of single crochet will be placed on row 5, the row where you only crocheted in the back loops. This row has left a circle on your teapot, so it should be easy to spot. It should look like the circle in the picture below.

Potje:
1. 6v in ring
2. *2v*                         (12)
3. *1v, 2v*                  (18)
4. *1v, 1v, 2v*           (24)
5. *1v, alleen in de achterste lus*  (24)
6. *1v, 1v, 1v, 2v*          (30)
7 – 10 *1v*                        (30)

IMG_7576 IMG_7580

Insert your crochet hook in one of the stitches horizontally.

IMG_7581 IMG_7582

Attach a different colour, and start making single crochets. For each single crochet, you insert your hook into the next vertical bar, just like I did for the first stitch.

IMG_7583 IMG_7584 IMG_7585

At the end, cut the thread and weave the end though the first loop, like in the pictures above. This will make it look seamless. Weave in the rest of the end in the inside of the teapot.

IMG_7586

When you’re done, your teapot should look like this. The bottom will be slightly dented.

Kettle (continued):
Rows 11 and 12: *1sc*       (30)
Attach the spout and the handgrip on the side. Instructions continued below pictures.

Potje (rest)
11, 12.  *1v*            (30)
Naai het tuitje en het zij-handvat erop. Instructies gaan verder onder de foto’s.

IMG_7588 IMG_7593 IMG_7592

13. *1sc[x3], sc2tog*     (24)
14. *1sc, 1sc, sc2tog*     (18)
15.  *1sc, sc2tog*            (12)
If you want a dotted teapot like the red-white coloured one at the top of this post, now’s the time to sew some french knots scattered across the kettle.
Put a bit of stuffing into the teapot.

13.  *1v [x3], 2vsh*        (24)
14.  *1v, 1v, 2vsh*          (18)
15.  *1v, 2vsh*                 (12)

IMG_7594 IMG_7595At the end of row 15, your teapot should look like the one pictured above.

IMG_7596 IMG_7597

At this point we are going to crochet another circle, this time using slip stitches. It will give the illusion of a lid. Again, insert the crochet hook horizontally between two stitches. You’ll do this in between rows 14 and 15. Be sure to crochet a tad loose, because slip stitches are very tight usually, and you don’t want a deformed teapot!

IMG_7598 IMG_7599

Stuff the teapot further.
Vul je theepotje nu helemaal op.

IMG_7600

16. *sc2tog*    (6)
Cut the thread, weave it through the last 6 stitches and pull tight.

16. *2vsh*        (6)

Attach the top handgrip on the lid. And your teapot is done!

Teacup
For a teacup you crochet this simple pattern:

1. 6sc in magic ring
2. *2sc*                                    (12)
3. *1sc, back loop only*                        (12)
4. 1sc[x4], 2sc, 1sc[x4], 2sc, 1sc, 1sc,  (14)
5-8   *1sc*
Crochet a round of slip stitches around row 8. Make a handgrip as well: ch6, turn and 5 slstl. Sew it to the side of the cup.

Naai het handvat vast bovenop de deksel. En je theepotje is klaar!

Theemok
Voor een theemokje haak je dit patroon:

1. 6v in ring
2. *2v*                             (12)
3. *1v, alleen in de achterste lussen*   (12)
4. 1v[x4], 2v, 1v[x4], 2v, 1v, 1v.                (14)
5-8  *1v*

And your teapot and teacup are all done! Woohoo! If you want to crochet an adorable mini-teapot like the one on the picture above, all you have to do is use very thin crochet thread. I use mine as a mobile phone charm, it’s so cute!
This pattern is not originally mine. I was inspired by the many many teapot patterns out there, but I can’t remember which ones. The pictures of the crochet items are my own though, so be kind and mention me when you decide to use the pictures. As for finished products of this pattern, sell them if you want to. I would love to see pictures of them on the Ravelry page!
Happy crafting!

En je theesetje is helemaal klaar!! Woehoe!

I love it!!! any suggestions for a hook and yarn size?

    • January 31, 2014 at 10:23 am — Reply

Hi Aubrey, thank you! I used a 2.25mm crochet hook and some regular cotton yarn such as Catania. A 2.5mm hook will work just fine too 🙂 Hope this helps!

This was awesome! I was wondering if it is possible to make a removeable lid on the teapot and if so, would you be able to do a tutorial on how to do one? Thanks.

Thank you so much! I’m sorry, I don’t do videos yet, but there are lots of videos already on how to do a magic loop for crochet, this might help you!

Thank you for sharing this darling tea pot. And for having instructions in English. I want to make 100. And thank you for giving permission to sell them. I would of course include your website and name. I’m so touched by your kindness. Robin

Hi Carol, English instructions are written in purple. This pattern can be used with any yarn, and the hook suitable for the yarn. For example, I used a fingering cotton yarn with a 2,5mm hook.
